Legal Advice
The Court Office is unable to offer legal advice. Legal advice can be obtained from any Guernsey Advocate. http://www.guernseybar.com
Generally an Advocate is available in Alderney on the first Thursday of every month, provided there is a Criminal Court sitting. The Advocate can provide legal advice and assistance on matters including preparation of wills, power of attorney on the grounds of age or mental capacity, personal bankruptcy, divorce and judicial separation, family matters and matters relating to children, property transfers, commercial & company matters and debt claims.

The Citizens Advice Bureau in Guernsey can also provide advice on matters relating to some legal issues. They can be contacted on (01481) 242266.
Legal Aid
Generally a Legal Aid Duty Advocate is available in Alderney on the first Thursday of every month, provided there is a Criminal Court sitting. Under the Legal Aid Scheme the Advocate can provide advice and assistance on matters including preparation of wills, power of attorney on the grounds of age or mental capacity, personal bankruptcy, divorce and judicial separation, family matters and matters relating to children.
This service is free to anyone in receipt of Income Support and may be free or subsidised for anyone with a low income and capital of less than £15,000 to £27,000 (depending on your personal circumstances) excluding the value of the home you live in.
Normally the Advocate cannot give advice under the Legal Aid Scheme on property transfers, commercial & company matters, petty debts claims, applying for probate or appearing before a tribunal.
