Transfer by Inheritance

Survivorship

This applies only where a property is held by more than one owner in the capacity "jointly and to vest in the survivor absolutely".  It does not apply where the property is held by more than one owner in any other capacity.  The survivor(s) need to provide the Death Certificate and a letter from the survivor(s) asking for the Register to be changed. There are no fees payable.

Wills

A Will relating to the  Realty of the deceased must be registered in the Court of Alderney before a freehold property can be transferred. Information on this process can be found here.

Leasehold property forms part of the Personalty of the deceased and is a matter for the Ecclesiastical Court in Guernsey, whose office is open Monday - Thursday mornings only, telephone number: +44(0)1482 721732.
